After my friend Julie had told me that she turns empty cigar boxes into amazing usable art objects, I asked her whether she would create a watch collector box for Alex. We met sharing a love for screenwriting, and Julie became a fan of Alex herself after hearing me going on and on about his charisma and talent :)
We bounced many images of watch movements back and forth between us (with the result that I'm now utterly fascinated by the innards of clocks and watches), and then Julie started the meticulous process of creating a unique gift for Alex.
She did a truly excellent job, immediately when I saw it, I knew that Julie had captured Alex's charisma, and I couldn't wait to give it to him!
"This is BEAUTIFUL!" Alex exclaimed. "How do you know that I collect watches?" he asked. I answered that I read it in an interview. He held his breath when he opened the box, and I can hardly describe his reaction to what was inside the box. He probably expected cigars, and he chuckled full of surprise when he saw that I had filled the box with Dove chocolates.
I muttered something about cigars ... and Alex immediately showed once more what a sweet gentleman he is: He made extra sure that I knew he wasn't disappointed about the chocolates. Moving close to me, he looked straight into my eyes and said: "You know, I love them both!"
