Chris Klug Foundation Newsletter August 2010

Visit the CKF Site

HEY DUDES! We’ve been having a super busy summer with awareness and outreach events scattered across the country. THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR VOLUNTEERS that pitched in and helped us get the word out; we could not have done it without your help.

CKF has also been busy getting the word out on our newly completed Educational Video Project, featuring a short video about the importance of organ and tissue donation presented in a fun, fast paced format. The project highlights the facts about organ donation, and the need to make an informed, educated decision, and being sure to share that decision with your family. We’ve recently revamped our website to provide more details about the project, and information on how to get a copy of the DVD for your school, church or community-be sure to check it out and sign up TODAY!

We’ve got a lot happening this fall and we need your help more than ever to share the organ and tissue donation message, and the impact one person can have on the lives of so many others. We're constantly adding more events and activities, so be sure to check out our website often, and let us know if you are interested in joining the effort and helping.

We're part of your team and are here to help~

RECENT EVENTS
ROCK THE RAILBENDER

Railbender 2010

This summer, the Town of Parker, CO presented two single day festivals, June 19 and July 24 at Railbender Park. The festivals were centered around live music, skateboarding competitions, and skate demonstrations from Colorado’s top professional skaters. The events drew a nice crowd of spectators and fans, and CKF was invited to participate as an official non-profit affiliate of the festival. A special thank you to our volunteers who helped out at the event: Chris, Catherine and Nickolas!

TUESDAYS WITH MICHAEL

Thanks to the Aspen Club and Spa for their support at the June 29 "Tuesdays with Michael" event!! Guests braved the rainy weather to come show support for the Chris Klug Foundation at the first "Tuesdays with Michael" event of the summer. Garnish provided the great food and drinks while musician Cameron was on hand to provide great live music. A special thanks to eMoo.com who partially sponsored the event and donated $1 to Chris Klug Foundation for every new sign up they received for their online classifieds website.

DONOR DASH 2010

Donor Dash 2010

The 11th Annual Donor Dash on July 18 was a great success. The 3,500 participants made it the largest Donor Dash to date. Team Donor Dudes was well represented, and our CKF booth received a ton of traffic....thanks to everyone who stopped by! A special shoutout to our volunteers for doing such a great job, Chris Simmons, Missy Klug, Pat April, Warren & Kathy Klug, and Patrick Sablich.

US TRANSPLANT GAMES

Transplant Games

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Chris Klug Foundation booth at the US Transplant Games Expo on July 30-31 in Madison, WI. Some of our Donor Dudes were on-site to share our work, and pass out some cool Donor Dudes schwag. We also shared information and a glimpse at our Educational DVD project, which will be ready in time for school to start this fall. Thanks to our Donor Dudes who ran the show: Jonathan, Michael and Isabelle Woodrow, Thomas Clark, Michael Wells and Chris Klug!

2010 WARPED TOUR

Warped Tour

For the third year in a row, CKF rocked the Vans Warped Tour at various cities across the country. This year we hosted stops in Salt Lake City, Denver and this weekend, we'll be part of the last stop of the Tour, taking place in Hillsboro, OR.

At each of the stops, our Donor Dudes met many kids that have been affected by organ donation; recipients, friends of individuals that were donors, family members who had donated or received an organ. They also met many young people who showed us their green "Donate Life" bracelets from last year. It's always pleasantly surprising to see how many kids we talk to that have already chosen to mark their license supporting donation. Be sure to check out the photos of the event in our Photo Gallery!

Thanks to everyone who volunteered to help us spread the word on the importance of organ and tissue donation this year-Mike, Brian, Missy, Chris, Hillary, Rachel and others...and to everyone who stopped by our booth to check us out!

WINTER X GAMES 15

X Games

For the first time in 2010, CKF was an official part of Winter X Games, having been invited to be a part of the Team ESPN tent. It was an amazing event for us, with a constant line out the door of people who wanted to learn more about our cause. We've been invited back to be an official part of the event in 2011! Winter X Games 15 will be held from Jan. 27 - 30, 2011 in Aspen, Colo.

For the third straight year, the Winter X Games was ESPN's highest-rated and most-viewed, and more than 43 million viewers tuned in to watch on ESPN and ESPN2 in 2010. The ESPN telecasts posted a 1.2 household rating, representing an average of 1,147,000 households. In addition, both ESPN and ESPN2 recorded their highest-rated and most-viewed individual Winter X telecasts (1.3 on ESPN and a 0.8 on ESPN2). Winter X Games 14 also set a new attendance record in Aspen at Buttermilk Mountain with a total of 84,100 spectators over four days, beating the previous Aspen best of 76,150 set in 2007 -- an increase of nine percent.

Educational Video Project:

CKF has put the finishing touches on our Educational Video project that we have been filming over the past year, and we've begun showing it to students and educators across the country. Be sure to check out the trailer on our website: CKF Educational Video Project Trailer

Targeted at health and drivers education classes, the video showcases the importance of knowing the facts about organ donation and making an informed, educated decision, and being sure to share that decision with your family! The video also promotes quality of life post transplant, and the importance of being healthy and active.

If you are interested in getting a copy of the video to share with your school, sports team, club or workplace, please visit our website to learn more about the project and how to secure your free copy.
